A one off celebration of London’s vibrant Maker Movement featuring some of the capitals finest talent across music, food, drinks and retail. Housed in Fairground’s temporary home in a disused office block in Haggerston, a bespoke programme for both day and night will showcase the very best thinkers and tinkerers.
Each level by day will have a distinctive theme, starting at Level One will be a Makers Market, showcasing some of the best artisanal creators, artists, producers and brands. Level Two and the Makers Lounge will provide an opportunity for physical exploration with a diverse programme of workshops. Top floor and the Makers Kitchen on Level Three will see a carefully crafted menu by critically acclaimed Ben Spalding using handmade ingredients cherry-picked by Hackney Hampers.
Makers at night is all about enjoying the craft of some of our favourite rebellious independent creators. Our exclusive music showcase will be in the hands of very special guest, his special three hour set will no doubt fuse techno, house, disco, jazz and afro beat, as he works the EQ hard to transform often well known tracks into stunning live interpretations.
Makers Lounge will present a series of 12 different ticketed workshops ranging from innovative papers crafts with paper ninja Poppy Chancellor to Get Rich or TieDying the brand new inventive workshop with Lizzie King or getting green fingered creating your very own indoor terrarium or plant biosphere with Botanic Boutique. Try your hand at creating a personalised leather wallet with Nomadic People or creating your own vintage jewellery with Kirsty Kirkpatrick.
Makers Market by day on Level One will feature 15 cherry-picked stallholders that represent the best in handcrafted talented across the capital; including handmade tweed products by London’s only micro-mill London Cloth Company, a bespoke local deli from across the borough curated by Hackney Hamper, East London’s leading illustrative shop Nobrow, Ruff and Huddle the world's freshest kids clothing company, Wool and the Gang knit wear gangsters and hand made cosmetics from The Naturalista.
From Michelin starred restaurants to cooking in car parks, maverick chef Ben Spalding has done it all and he’s created a couple of great menus for the top two floors at Makers. Up in the kitchen its all about hearty sized portions of great seasonal food. In the lounge he’s overseen the food side of our Winter Whisky Pairing Menu. If you’ve got a sweet tooth the first floor is the place to be with a hot cocktail bar next to a dessert bar from Yolk. While outside Street Feast favourite’s Yum Jungle will be keeping things spicy in the courtyard.
Detroit legend Theo Parrish will be playing a very special three hour set to close our first Makers event. He will no doubt fuse techno, house, disco, jazz and afro beat as he takes control of the first floor. Up above in the lounge there will be Whisky Master Classes, a Meat Raffle, and Ben Spalding will be taking care of all of the food.
